Growing up under a single parent's authority is not something every child experiences; while traveling through school envious of other students who have both parents attending events and hold the picture-perfect, white-picket-fence life. In 2005, Makayla's life changed forever when she realized that her personal bodyguard was no longer going to be able to be her shadow anymore. Her best friend, main caregiver, and father die when she was only ten. Now, she struggles to grow closer to her mother while she works two jobs just to support a single-income household.

I started writing in a journal when I was very young. One of my goals was to publish a book and in 2015 I did just that. Since 2012, I have published numerous articles as a journalist. More non-fiction and poetry books are currently in the works.

Throughout my journalism career, I thoroughly enjoyed getting the opportunity to hear people’s stories. It humbled me that I had their trust to communicate their message to readers. This journey led me to help others tell their stories and to share what I’ve learned about branding, marketing, and messaging.
